The Sufi Path of Light
The Zawiya brings together seekers from a diversity of backgrounds, nations, ambitions, and intentions to form a community walking as one on the Sufi path of Light united by love, self-purification, and knowledge.
Rooted in Tradition, Alive in the Present
Rooted in the timeless wisdom of revelation yet attentive to the realities of the present age, The Zawiya seeks to cultivate spaces where knowledge, beauty, and spiritual practice converge. Through carefully curated teachings, publications, gatherings, and retreats, we invite seekers to engage with the sacred in a manner that is both profound and transformative.
Our work draws upon a rich intellectual and spiritual heritage while remaining open to meaningful dialogue with contemporary life. Whether through contemplative study, scholarly inquiry, artistic expression, or collective worship, each offering is designed to nurture a deeper awareness of the Divine and a more intimate understanding of the self.
The Zawiya is a gathering place for seekers, scholars, artists, and lovers of wisdom, a sanctuary where hearts are refined, minds are illuminated, and souls are reminded of their primordial longing for their Creator. Here, spiritual growth is not pursued in isolation but through companionship, beauty, and shared remembrance.
In a world increasingly marked by distraction and fragmentation, we aspire to revive a culture of presence: one that cultivates inner stillness, meaningful reflection, and direct experiential knowledge of God. Through education, worship, and community, we seek to illuminate a path toward wholeness, guided always by the Divine Light that shines within every sincere seeker.
"The journey to God is the journey to the deepest reality of ourselves. THE ZAWIYA exists to accompany that journey, through knowledge, companionship, worship, and the cultivation of the heart."
Meet the Founder
SHAYKH MOHAMED FAOUZI AL KARKARI
Shaykh Al-Karkari is a Moroccan Sufi teacher and founder of the Karkariya Path. Rooted in the Shadhili tradition, his teachings emphasize the remembrance of God, the purification of the heart, and the direct witnessing of Divine Light.
Through spiritual guidance, retreats, and public discourse, he invites seekers from all backgrounds to embark upon a path of inner transformation, sacred knowledge, and nearness to the Divine.
"O you who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance, and glorify Him morning and evening."
— Surah Al-Aḥzāb (33:41–42)
The litany (al-wird) is a luminous flow that extends from the heart of the Shaykh to the heart of the seeker, by which the Shaykh draws the seeker into a pure, supra-sensory presence.
The wird is widd (love), and widd is one of the seventy thousand degrees of the heart, corresponding to the number of veils between the Real and the creation.
To benefit from the luminous flow of the litany it is recommended to recite the daily litany once after the Dawn prayer and once after the Sunset prayer.
